About Me
I got involved in bartending back in 2001, when I decided to attend Professional Bartender’s School in San Francisco after a few years of mixing at home and for parties. Since then, I’ve learned a lot freelancing as a bartender and server for catering services, independently for small events, and worked a few places in the food and service industry. When not working my day job, I’m usually crafting new cocktails for upcoming contests, developing new or classic mixers, and studying from cocktail books. Most recently, I’ve enjoyed David Wondrich’s Imbibe!, a book on “Professor” Jerry Thomas, the first bartender to write and publish a book on bartending and drinks.
I specialize in tropical cocktails as developed by Don the Beachcomber and “Trader Vic” Bergeron. These creations represent 40 years of the predominant cocktail culture in America that were suddenly gone in the blink of an eye. Thanks to the work of Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, these drinks have seen resurgence, and more new Tiki bars are opening up every month. My site, tradertiki.com, is a tribute to these masters, and a record of my quest to recreate their drinks as they would have made them.
